It is the clichéd story of a rock band: A few guys get together and play. They write a few songs. They actually get into a studio to record them. But no record ever comes of it.

Matt Thornton has been there before.

Guitarist and vocalist in the band Motorhome, a Fort Collins favorite for the past two years, Thornton will finally erase that story from his resumé.

He’s in a band, he and his buddies wrote a few songs, they recorded them in the mandolin player’s home studio, and now they have a record. A CD, in this case, one that members produced and recorded themselves.

“I’m super stoked that we got one out in plastic that I can hold in my hand,” Thornton said.

The self-titled debut CD will be available at ABCD’s and The Finest in Fort Collins on Aug. 10, the same day the band will have its CD release party at the Aggie Theatre.
“I think it came out really well for the first one,” Thornton said. “It’s kind of a catch-up album.”

He means that the 11-track recording includes some new songs and some tunes the band has played from the beginning.

The band — which includes Matt Mahern, also on vocals and guitar, John Motley on drums, Ben Prytherch on bass and Darren Radach on mandolin (he of the home recording studio) — has already begun working on another record.

Thornton said he and his mates want to have the second record done in six months or so. While that may sound like a quick turnaround, the band is on a roll.
And true to the band’s name, members hope to keep on rolling.

FullMetal Alchemist (48)

FullMetal Alchemist"Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is Alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only truth."

3 Wise-asses (15)

3wiseassesWe're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!) We call it insight, you call it what you will.

Ravings, rantings, and gibberish. (36)

DrewWhat is up FoCo? I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado. I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks. Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know! --Drew
