There’s an unwritten but proven rule in marriage, business and especially bluegrass festivals.
If it’s not working by the third year, it’s probably a good idea to pick up and move. That’s why Ken Seaman, organizer of the Greeley Bluegrass Festival, considers this the pivotal year for the Greeley Bluegrass Festival.
“If I get the same numbers that I’ve had the first two years,” Seaman said, “I might be looking for a different location.”
Seaman moved the festival to the end of August to help encourage more folks to come, as well as added more contests, such as singing, duet, fiddle and banjo contests. He also spread the word more through his group, the Bluegrass Patriots, and handed out flyers when he traveled the country for the summer festival season with his band.
Still, Seaman knows all that won’t work if he doesn’t get support from Greeley.
“I’m going to have to have a lot more locals attending,” he said. “I’ve got some reservations because of that. I really need some people from Greeley coming out and supporting this. I’m hopeful that we’ll get some walk-ups.”
A little luck won’t hurt either.
“Festivals are a funny phenomenon,” he said. “There’s one I have in Denver in the winter, and it’s sold out every winter and going on for two decades. It’s difficult to get a new one off the ground sometimes.”
Then again, if it doesn’t work out, it’s possible it may not be all bad.
“Maybe I’ll just spend the weekend next year playing the banjo by myself,” he said and laughed.

| | "Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is Alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only truth." | |
| | We're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!)
We call it insight, you call it what you will. | |

| | What is up FoCo?
I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!
