"Superbad" turned out to be supergood.
The raunchy comedy about the oldest story in high school — three awkward boys trying to score booze and girls — earned $31.2 million over the weekend, easily cruising past "Rush Hour 3" and "The Bourne Ultimatum" to take the No. 1 spot.
"Superbad," which skipped big-name teen stars and cost only $20 million to produce, came from the team of producer Judd Apatow and writer-director Seth Rogen, who has already had one monster smash this summer with "Knocked Up." Ironically, "Superbad" opened the day after the Disney Channel's equally big hit "High School Musical 2."
"HSM2" is as squeaky clean as "Superbad" is messy and offers a far-rosier view of the high school experience.
"Rush Hour 3," a cop-buddy comedy with Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker, slipped from first to second place, but still earned $21.8 million and seems likely to crash the $100 million barrier this week.
"The Bourne Ultimatum" earned $19 million, running its three-weekend total to $163.8 million.
With the summer movie season winding down, two other new films didn't do as well.
"The Invasion," with Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig, finished fifth with $6 million, and the Colin Firth-Ben Kingsley war epic "The Last Legion" limped in 12th with $2.6 million.
"Superbad" helped Hollywood continue a strong summer, as the weekend's top 12 films earned $110.5 million, up from $90 million for the same weekend last year. New releases coming up for the last weekend of summer include Jet Li's "War" and the comic drama "The Nanny Diaries" with Scarlett Johanssen. ___

| | "Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is Alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only truth." | |
| | We're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!)
We call it insight, you call it what you will. | |

| | What is up FoCo?
I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!
