'Uncle Kracker' jailed on sex charge |

Musician Matthew Shafer — who performs under the name Uncle Kracker — was in the Wake County Jail Friday morning on a charge of second-degree forcible sex offense.
Shafer was in Raleigh on Thursday night to perform in an outdoor concert at the Depot building on Davie Street downtown.
The charge stemmed from an incident at Ess Lounge at 327 West Davie St., Raleigh police spokesman Jim Sughrue said.
A 26-year-old woman approached an off-duty police officer early Friday morning and told him that Shafer had committed a sexual act against her in the nightclub. The woman and Shafer were not acquaintances, Sughrue said.
The off-duty officer and other police officers investigated and obtained a warrant against Shafer, Sughrue said. Cary police officers then detained Shafer at the Embassy Suites in Cary, N.C., until Raleigh police arrived, served the warrant and took Shafer to jail.
He was being held in lieu of $5 million secured bond and was scheduled for a first appearance in court at 2 p.m. Friday.
Shafer's Web site, which does not appear to have been updated recently, said he was working on an album titled "Happy Hour" as of late last year.
An entry on the Web site Wikipedia says Shafer is 33 and was born in Mount Clemens, Mich. He has had a number of hits, including "Follow Me," "In a Little While," a cover version of Dobie Gray's "Drift Away," "Memphis Soul Song" and "When the Sun Goes Down," recorded with Kenny Chesney. | Only registered users can write comments.

I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
