___ K-VILLE 9 p.m. EDT Monday Fox ___
Just what the world needs, right? Another police-buddy TV series where two street cops, seemingly from two different worlds, patrol the mean, urban jungle, fighting crime, their no-nonsense captain and each other - even if it means, say it with me, not going by the book.
That's what the new Fox drama "K-Ville," beginning Monday at 7 p.m., is. Yet two things slightly redeem it: its setting in post-Katrina New Orleans and a charismatic performance by the underrated Anthony Anderson. Though he earned his stripes in such comedies as "Barbershop" and "Malibu's Most Wanted," he's come into his own as a dramatic actor, as the conniving Antwon Mitchell on "The Shield" and now as emotionally tortured New Orleans detective Marlin Boulet.
The series kicks off in Katrina's aftermath with Boulet in frantic search-and-rescue mode, a situation made worse by his partner's panicked flight from the devastation. Cut to the present day, and Boulet is saddled with a new partner, Trevor Cobb (Cole Hauser), who recently joined the New Orleans force after serving in Afghanistan for two years.
Boulet doesn't quite trust him, but they put their bickering aside to investigate what appear to be drive-bys disrupting charity events staged by the heiress of one of the city's wealthiest, casino-owning families. The plot is predictable to the point of parody, but watching Boulet try to put his life back together - his wife and daughter have moved to Atlanta, his neighborhood is still a riot of decay - is more intriguing.
In a TV world where a series as complex and convoluted as "The Wire" has elevated the police drama to near-operatic heights, "K-Ville" is certainly nothing special. But if it can move away from tried-and-true cop-show tactics it's hobbled with and go beyond using its unique setting as mere colorful window dressing, "K-Ville" just might turn into a series worth watching.

| | "Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is Alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only truth." | |
| | We're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!)

| | What is up FoCo?
I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!
