Cool fall days might draw you outside to the garden, but fall evenings call you back indoors.
Whether it's relaxing by the season's first fire or pulling a chenille throw around you on the sofa, there's just something cozy about fall.
And there is a way to bring a touch of the season to every room in the house.
FIRST THINGS FIRST Fall is a great time to spruce up a home's entryway. Change out a tired welcome mat (maybe even add one decorated with fall leaves or colors).
Add an autumn-inspired wreath with the colors and bounties of the season such as dried florals or a grapevine wreath with dried fruits, berries and nuts.
Arrange a few containers next to the front door, or set out colorful mums on the steps.
FAMILY ROOM The fireplace is about to become the focal point again. In the months before it gets dressed for the winter holidays, give it a fall facelift with grape vines or fruit. Candles in rich earth colors and fall scents (like spiced pumpkin) complete the feel.
Chenille throws can be added to the sofa or a chair and ottoman to give the room a softer look. They also can provide a splash of warm color. Add a few throw pillows, and you're set.
KITCHEN Most people don't have a set of dishes for each season, but you can add a couple pieces. Consider a serving piece or a set of chili bowls in fall colors or motifs.
DINING ROOM Move away from the white and pastel linens that worked in spring and summer. Try new tablecloths, napkins or table runners. The choice of colors and weight of the fabric convey the changing season.
Try adding textured placemats or tablecloths in rich browns, reds and oranges. Replace light summer floral arrangements and take advantage of what's outdoors — berries, twigs, pumpkins and pine cones.
LIVING ROOM Change window treatments from lightweight, bright summer colors and fabrics to heavier draperies in stronger colors.
BATHROOM It's easy — and inexpensive — to give this small room a new feel. Change out the towels, adding dark green, red, brown or deep gold colors. Add candles and potpourri in deeper colors and stronger scents.
BEDROOM You don't need all new bedding; just add a few accessories. Switch out pillow shams or add a few accent pillows in warmer colors and heavier textures. Add a quilt to the bottom of the bed. And nothing feels as cozy as sleeping on flannel sheets. | Only registered users can write comments. Please login or register. |

| | We're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!)
We call it insight, you call it what you will. | |

| | What is up FoCo?
I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!
