It was more than Elizabeth Pawlowski’s first time. It was “The Producers.”
You know, the Mel Brooks musical based on a film that later became a film again. The Broadway sensation that now tours and plays in Vegas and all over the world, really. The one that won the Tony for Best Musical. One of the few musicals that practically everyone knows.
“I was a little nervous,” Pawlowski said. “I felt like I had a lot to live up to.”
The play will hit the Lincoln Center in Fort Collins from Nov. 6-9 and the Union Colony Civic Center in Greeley on Nov. 10 for two shows.
She was just two years out of college, and this was her first lead role in a national tour, so she was intimidated about that too, even if Pawlowski has done theater since age 14, when she played Cinderella in a community theater production.
But her youth is what gives the play a little kick, she said in a phone interview.
“I’m proud to say that people seem to prefer our production the best even if they’ve seen other productions,” Pawlowski said. “That makes me happy because it means we’re doing our job. But our cast is considerably younger. We’re all 22 to 30. So I think we have a bit more gusto.”
Pawlowski plays Ulla and had no problems making the role her own even if it was played by several famous actresses, including Uma Thurman in the most recent movie.
“I never saw the Broadway show and never saw the movie,” she said. “So I created her differently. She has become my own.”
This national tour will last until April 7 and then go for a long run into Asia, including a month-and-a-half run in Seoul, Japan.
The play is so overdone that an audience is rarely surprised, Pawlowski said. “But we gave it some new life,” she said.

| | "Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is Alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only truth." | |
| | We're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!)
We call it insight, you call it what you will. | |

| | What is up FoCo?
I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!
