“Clue” is the musical version of the board game, which has been enchanting the young since 1944. It features the deceased as a character called Mr. Boddy, a great narrative convenience; it is Mr. Boddy who introduces the other characters, and then, when it is time to die, obligingly lies down.

But first there is supper, always distinguished at Union Colony Dinner Theater, where fine food has become a tradition. My two companions ordered a ham entree, and — harbinger of things to come — turkey; these were pronounced excellent. While they were eating the remains of animals I feasted on the UCDT potatoes, about which more than a word should be said. The potatoes were both mashed and sweet, the latter nicely glazed and the former enriched with lots of butter and cheese. This has become my customary UCDT fare, for which I neglect even the eggplant, which is offered vegetarians. For dessert my guests had a mixed berry tart, and a Chocolate Decadence that truly was. So if you want a particularly yummy fudge cake, the Union Colony is your place.

Replete, we settled, each of us with a cup of the theater’s rich, favorable decaf, back to enjoy the show. Mr. Boddy is the role essayed by proprietor Raja Salaymeh, as always smooth and graceful in his evening clothes. Mrs. Peacock is pretty Kia Chapman, a second-grade teacher in Brighton with a lovely low voice who commutes to us, a gift for which we are grateful.

The role of the cook is the delightful Brandon Bill, a superb player who has spent his UCDT years expanding his already considerable repertoire while delighting his audiences. So good was Bill’s acting, singing, and makeup that I had to be told both that it is customary for Mrs. White to be played by a man—I had never seen “Clue” before—and that this particular Mrs. White was Bill.

Brianna Gassner, who was Maria in “West Side Story” is a divine Miss Scarlet, sweet-voiced and funny; she has graduated from UNC, and is, no doubt to the delight of her students, teaching in Greeley. Spencer Hughes is a clever, racy Mr. Greene, resplendent in a striped green suit; John Sosna is a trumpet-voiced Colonel Mustard and Joel Chavez is Professor Plum.

Hilary Tae’s inconsistent lisp, which is hard to understand, is jarring; Steve Wallace introduces the show, and very well.

I thought “Clue” was fun. About halfway through—I was busy taking my notes which, dear reader, are the substance of this review—I discovered a sheet on which characters, weapons and rooms are listed. One is supposed to mark off the ones which Mr. Boddy tells us are not applicable, which I forgot to do. My distress was much eased, however, when neither of my two companions, both smarter than I, guessed who did poor Mr. Boddy in, nor where, nor with what. It’s a cute show, so it’s good to have to go again when I have no notes to take and can pay attention.

In the meantime, you can take vast comfort in knowing how much better you’re likely to do in solving the mystery than I.

FullMetal Alchemist (48)

FullMetal Alchemist"Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is Alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only truth."

3 Wise-asses (15)

3wiseassesWe're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!) We call it insight, you call it what you will.

Ravings, rantings, and gibberish. (36)

DrewWhat is up FoCo? I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado. I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks. Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know! --Drew
