When it comes to cricket, you don’t have that many choices.
You’ve got your wireless phone company Cricket.
You’ve got Jiminy Cricket.
You’ve got your plain ol’ cricket, the kind that keeps you up at night by constantly chirping while hidden somewhere underneath the sink, but sneaky enough to stop chirping after you crawl out of bed to search for the annoyance so you can’t find it, and yet you know it’ll start up again once you crawl back into bed ... but we digress.
And you’ve got the game of cricket, the oddity to Americans that is somewhat like baseball but where the batsman looks more like a hockey goalie and the players in the field are dressed more for brunch at the country club than for turning a 6-4-3 doubleplay.
It’s the latter form of cricket — an “updated” version of it anyway — that is coming to northern Colorado in an exclusive broadcast on Comcast Cable.
The Stanford 20/20 Cricket Tournament, which will have 20 Caribbean teams competing in Antigua from Jan. 26-Feb. 24, will be broadcast specifically to Fort Collins and the surrounding area on Channel 97. The broadcasts will include all 19 matches and feature American sports broadcasters educating viewers about the game of 20/20 cricket.
Stanford 20/20, founded by businessman and Texas native Sir Allen Stanford, removes some of the formality of the game and whittles it down to three-hour, nighttime matches with lots of “energy, emotion, color and excitement.” That’s how Stanford puts it.
The winning team will win $1 million.
There will be several events in Fort Collins during the tournament. The kick-off party is Saturday, Jan. 26 at C.B. & Potts, 1415 W. Elizabeth in Fort Collins, and will have $100 gift certificate giveaways, music and free food. Pre-match coverage starts at 6 p.m. and the matches start at 8:15 p.m.
Other promotions include the opportunity for someone to win $20,020, for 10 people to win $2,020, and a chance for six groups of four to win all-expense paid trips to Antigua to watch the tournament during the month of February.

| | "Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is Alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only truth." | |
| | We're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!)
We call it insight, you call it what you will. | |

| | What is up FoCo?
I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!
