The alliteration alone makes them sound like they go together, no? And art — at least the good art — comes from the heart, so it only stands to reason that at some point, like peanut butter and chocolate, the heart and art should team up.
And thus it is during the month of February that the Greeley Art Association and the Spirit of Women at Northern Colorado Medical Center have teamed up to support awareness of heart health.
The Art from the Heart Show at the Showcase Art Center, 1335 8th Ave. in Greeley, will run through Feb. 29 and feature more than 250 works from 100 artists. It will be a juried show featuring oil, water media, pastel, three-dimensional, photography and other media.
The show’s reception will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, at the center. The annual show is hosted by the Greeley Art Association. Heart-healthy snacks and wine will be available, as will members of the CardioVascular Institute at NCMC to discuss heart health and the month’s activities.
There will also be the Spirit of Women Day of Dance from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23 at the Greeley Mall. You can participate will area exercise and dance groups or enjoy dance demonstrations. Health screenings will also be available from 8-10 a.m. Call 350.6177 for costs or to make an appointment. Colette Pitcher, artist and owner of the Showcase Art Center, said she was excited to be a partner with Spirit of Women.
“We talked about how art is a way of using your right and left brain together and that it can improve your health. This can show how important art and art appreciation can be in improving your health.”

| | "Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is Alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only truth." | |
| | We're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!)
We call it insight, you call it what you will. | |

| | What is up FoCo?
I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!
