To Go To The Show
Savion's Resume

Sometimes slipping on his tap shoes is like strapping into a bungee cord — an explosion of energy. Other times it’s familiar and smooth — like being tucked into bed.

“It’s a different feeling every time,” said Savion Glover, the Tony award-winning performer and renowned tap dancer.

With a 10-piece chamber ensemble, Glover will kick off his national tour of “Classical Savion” (pronouced SAVE-ian) Monday in Fort Collins. The show combines Glover’s illustrious dance skills with the music of Vivaldi, Stravinski, Bach and more.

Through this show, Glover proves himself a musician whose feet are his instrument.
“I’m just a solo musician in this performance,” Glover said. “The show is about the music and the dance is the music.”

Growing up, Glover was surrounded by expressive outlets. His mother got him into dance classes at 7 and he started drumming even before that.

“At the same time, I loved Michael Jordan,” Glover said. “I wanted to be Michael Jordan.”

As he got older though, dance resonated deeper within him.

“This art form is something else way more important than the show business aspect,” Glover said. “I got married to it. I fell in love and realized this is what I’m here to do.”

Now 32, he has appeared on Broadway and TV many times and has been cast in numerous movies.

Although he couldn’t release the title just yet, a new animated movie is in the works where Glover dances as a penguin. The feature is expected to come out in November.

“I want to continue to grow in what I know — that’s it,” he said. “I want to be a dancer. I just want to continue to be that.”

Glover says he exists today because of the great dancers who came before him like Jimmy Slyde, Sammy Davis Jr., Arthur Duncan, Chuck Green, Gregory Hines and many more.

Some might say Glover is the Gregory Hines of the next generation, but he doesn’t see it that way.

“No, I’m just a part,” he said. “I’m just a continuation. I’m not the next, I’m a part of what is and what is to be. The best is not here anymore. Once I say I’m the best, why am I living? I want to continue to learn. I’m not the best, I’m just one of many. I think those guys are the best.”

FullMetal Alchemist (48)

FullMetal Alchemist"Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is Alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only truth."

3 Wise-asses (15)

3wiseassesWe're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!) We call it insight, you call it what you will.

Ravings, rantings, and gibberish. (36)

DrewWhat is up FoCo? I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado. I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks. Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know! --Drew
