GeoQuiz Q: Isle Royal National Park is in which of the Great Lakes? [Answer at end of travel briefs.]
Discount airlines on rise The “Southwest Effect” is well known. Usually, where Southwest starts service, fares go down. The success of that effect is being copied by airlines worldwide.
On the U.S. mainland you have JetBlue, Spirit, AirTran, Ted and nearly a dozen more. Recently returned from bankruptcy, US Airways claims it’s reinventing itself as a low-fare carrier (although we’ve seen this only on certain competitive routes).
Combined, these low-cost carriers have a route structure reaching hundreds of destinations. Although each may not have the frequency of flights that major carriers offer or individually provide the complete route structure of the majors, if you’re flexible in your travel needs, you can save big bucks.
Cruise engagements If Princess Cruises keeps promoting romance, the next add-on to a “Love Boat” may have to be a maternity ward.
Anyone eager for a bended-knee proposal can take advantage of the “Engagement Under the Stars” option on the new Crown Princess in June. It goes fleetwide within the year.
The $695 package includes a hush-hush session with the ship’s videographer, who creates a personalized on-screen proposal to air on the giant screen. A coordinator will assist in orchestrating the surprise proposal.
Baggage weight limits lowered Among myriad cost-saving measures to offset higher fuel costs and other financial problems, many airlines lowered the limit on checked bags to 50 pounds per bag (two per passenger) for international economy class, with a $25 fee for bags between 51 and 70 pounds.

| | We're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!)

| | What is up FoCo?
I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!
