TO GO
Crash course in container gardening, 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday at The Gardens on Spring Creek, 2154 S. Centre Ave., Fort Collins.
Cost: $20 members, $25 nonmembers, open to the public and limited to 20 participants. All materials are included. To register, call 416-2486.
Jeff Sorenson, owner of Rabbit Shadow Farm in Loveland will instruct the class. He also offers classes at Rabbit Shadow Farm. The next one is scheduled for April 29 and costs about $20. R.S.V.P. at 667-5531.

QUICK TIPS FOR PERFECT CONTAINER GARDENS
Open wide
Avoid containers with narrow openings. Bigger containers give the plants more room, so make sure you know how big the plant will get.
Select your soil
Experts recommend soil-less mixes because they provided better moisture retention.
Don’t be in the dark
Make sure the plant gets adequate sunshine or is placed in an appropriate location. Some plants do better in shaded areas than others.
Don’t forget the water
Generally speaking, one watering a day should suffice, but make sure the container has good drainage.
Fertilize regularly
Liquid fertilizer is a quick way to ensure the plants are getting needed nutrients. Most annual flowers require weekly applications.

I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!
