The Fort Collins Symphony is tuning up to accompany Amy Grant on Sunday, Sept. 24, as she serenades fans at the Budweiser Events Center.

Entering its 58th season, the 65-piece orchestra prides itself on being the oldest established arts organization and the only professional symphonic orchestra in Larimer County.

Musicians in the Fort Collins Symphony have been busy practicing songs on Grant’s concert agenda, including: “The Sorcerer’s Stone,” “Stay for a While,” “Someone to Watch Over Me,” “Love Me Tender,” “House of Love,” “Big Yellow Taxi,” “The Power,” “Appalachian Spring,” “Lost,” “Highland Cathedral,” “I will Remember You” and a song from “On Golden Pond”.

This performance will not only kick off the symphony’s 2006-2007 season, but is also the biggest concert the symphony has performed. Typically, the symphony performs at The Lincoln Center in Fort Collins, which can house at many as 1,200 people. The performance with Grant will be held at the Budweiser Events Center, which can accommodate 8,000 fans.

“This is by far the biggest concert we’ve done,” said Marta Farrell, executive director of the Fort Collins Symphony.

The musicians won’t have much time to get used to Grant’s style or her conductor, David Hamilition; they will have only one practice the morning before the performance.

The Fort Collins Symphony isn’t letting nerves ruin the excitement over the upcoming concert.

“We really feel blessed that our dreams have come true, to be selected because of our artistic excellence. It is a great opportunity to perform with a world class artist like her,” Farrell said.

Excitement is also brewing for the concert at the Budweiser Events Center.
“This is going to be a show like we’ve never seen before. It will be a whole new experience for those that love Amy Grant and for those that love the symphony,” said Elizabeth Garcia, director of marketing for the Budweiser Events Center.

FullMetal Alchemist (48)

FullMetal Alchemist"Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is Alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only truth."

3 Wise-asses (15)

3wiseassesWe're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!) We call it insight, you call it what you will.

Ravings, rantings, and gibberish. (36)

DrewWhat is up FoCo? I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado. I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks. Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know! --Drew
