Police say they tracked down a 14-year-old girl after she used her her kidnapper's cell phone to text message her mom.
Investigators caught and arrested the suspect, 37-year-old Vinson Filyaw, about 24 hours later after he allegedly tried to carjack a woman.
Elizabeth Shoaf had been missing for 10 days. She appeared unharmed when deputies found her about a mile from her home in a bunker dug in the side of a hill. It was covered with plywood and had a hand-dug privy with toilet paper, a camp stove and shelves made with cut branches and canvas.
___
THE TEXT MESSAGE: Investigators used cell towers to determine a general location of the phone after Shoaf used it. They began searching Friday night. Kershaw County Sheriff Steve McCaskill said the girl cried out as searchers approached the bunker. Officials said Shoaf was not tied up and was coherent.
___
THE SUSPECT: Filyaw is an unemployed construction worker who was wanted on a charge of criminal sexual conduct against a 12-year-old girl, McCaskill said. Deputies had been searching for him for months, and tried to arrest him at his home earlier this week. He escaped then using a tunnel that led from his bedroom to a shed, the sheriff said.

| | What is up FoCo?
I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!
