Even though Scoo Leary, 32, of Fort Collins never made it to rock star status, he’s doing the next best thing. Leary owns the Aggie Theatre in Fort Collins where he can surround himself with music every day. As a student at Colorado State University, Leary worked as the concert chairman, booking several shows including Phish, Sheryl Crow, Widespread Panic and Violent Femmes. After graduating with a psychology degree, Leary went to work for Doug Kauffman at Nobody In Particular Presents. He later bought the Starlight, formally known as Mountain Tap, and completely renovated it. Four years ago, he sold the Starlight and bought the Aggie Theatre. Over the years, he has met several stars and music icons. “In college I interviewed the Red Hot Chili Peppers and got to hang out with them,” he said. “They are an amazing band and amazing people.” Leary said he looks forward to working with the Fort Collins downtown business association with some upcoming events. VITAL STATS Name: Scoo Leary Company: Aggie Theatre Title: Owner How long have you worked there: Four years
IN HIS WORDS What is it about this job that makes it challenging? Keeping the artists happy because they have a lot of different needs. Each person is obviously an individual with their own requirements and then you get a group of people together who all want to be acknowledged and want to be taken care of. Sometimes the needs of one band can be diametrically opposed from one artist to the next. You have to be attentive to their needs.
... makes you get out of bed in the morning? The music. I live vicariously through this. I want to be the rock star.
Things that impress you? Things that don’t? People who have their shit together impress me. People that don’t annoy me.
How do young/new employees get ahead? By listening, asking questions and emulating excellence.
Did you ever think in a million years you’d work here? I hoped to be a rock star or hockey phenom, but then having not fulfilled that, this was the next best thing.
If you weren’t doing this, what would you do? Running a nice bistro or Mexican restaurant.
What’s the stupidest thing you’ve ever done while at work? Not preparing well enough for a major concert.
Smartest? Hired Brian as my manager.
What’s the most unusual thing you’ve ever done to make money? Sold coffee and doughnuts to people in line for the Apprentice, We actually made a couple hundred dollars, but I was trying to show my initiative because I was there to try and get on the “Apprentice,” too.
Any interesting anecdotes? Powering through another day of rock ’n’ roll, eye on the prize, unwavering commitment to excellence.
What’s the one thing you wish you could do on the job that you can’t right now or haven’t been able to do yet? Have the Rolling Stones play here.
What do you do during your breaks? I like to go to Mexico three or four times a year.
What’s one thing about your job you would do, even if you weren’t paid to do it? Listen to the music.
What’s the biggest payoff in your job? Watching people get off to the music.
Are you the boss? Do you think you should be? I’m the boss of the hot sauce, baby.
What do you do when you’re not at work? Play with my dog Zeppelin.
Pets? One dog, a Chesapeake Bay Retriever, three cats and a bunch of fish.
Family? Favorite person is my dad.
Favorite TV shows. “Andy Griffith,” “Leave it to Beaver” and “South Park.”
Movies. “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly” and “Easy Rider.”
Books. “Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance” and “The Seat of the Soul.”
What Web sites do you have bookmarked? Frontier Airlines
Where do you play? Pepsi Center for Avs games and Mile High Stadium for the Broncos.
Go out to eat? I like Jay’s Bistro, Pulcinella Ristorante and Consuelo’s.
Favorite spot? The beach in Ixtapa, Mexico.

| | We're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!)

| | What is up FoCo?
I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!
