The Fort Collins Museum, 200 Mathews St., presents “Women in the World: A Panel Discussion,” Sept. 28 at 7 p.m.
The free event will feature women from Fort Collins who have impacted not only their community, but also the world. The museum has been spotlighting contemporary and historical issues of women since April.
“The Fort Collins museum is always trying to educate the community on the history and culture of Fort Collins, this was a subject that we hadn’t covered yet,” said Kerry Doyle, curator for education at the museum.
Dian Sparling, one of the presenters, is a nurse-midwife who has worked to improve legislation concerning reproductive rights.
Martha Denney is a presenter and one of the women who came up with the idea for this panel discussion. Denney is director of international education at Colorado State University.
Lynette McGowan rounds out the trio of presenters. McGowan will relate her experiences as a development worker in Laos and with her current project called Ten Thousand Villages.
Doyle believes this presentation will be valuable to all who attend.
“It gives people a broader understanding of the contributions, challenges and experiences Fort Collins women have had, while impacting the world. It also gives people an understanding of women in other countries,” Doyle said. | Only registered users can write comments.

I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!
