Victoria Jackson was watching TV the other night and something felt oddly familiar.

A new show on NBC, “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip,” is based on “Saturday Night Live” and was déja vu for Jackson — but not just because she’s an SNL alumna.
One of the show’s main characters is a blond actress who also sings and is a devout Christian.

Jackson, who was an SNL cast member for six years, is blonde, sings and is a Christian, too.

“I was watching the show with my husband, and I said, ‘Is that me?’ ” she said. “I was the only born-again Christian I’ve ever known on SNL. It hit a little close to home.”

Jackson, who will perform at the Union Colony Civic Center on Oct. 6, left the comedy show in 1992 because she married her high school sweetheart, a police helicopter pilot in Miami.

“I do miss it — it was like the most exciting job of the universe,” she said of SNL. “But it was also very stressful, so it’s kind of nice to not be on it, too.”

She keeps a toe in show business by routinely traveling the country for stand-up acts. She talks about being married to a cop, she plays the ukelele — including a ditty called “Bimbos in Bikinis” — and does a handstand while reciting poetry.

The handstand act, which Jackson learned as a child performing gymnastics, was the first of her eventual 20 appearances on “The Tonight Show” with Johnny Carson, which Jackson says launched her career.

She is best known for her 1986-1992 stint on SNL, but Jackson has made several appearances in movies and TV shows. Fans of “The X-Files” might remember an episode called, “The Weather Man,” in which Jackson appears as a love interest for a man who can control the weather.

Last month, Jackson flew to New York to audition for a supporting role in a Broadway musical adaptation of “Legally Blonde,” about a kindhearted ditz who goes to Harvard Law School.

Being an active Christian in Hollywood was not always easy for Jackson, but she said there is a growing movement to involve Christian performers in more roles.
Stand-up comedy, with its famously off-color performers such as Richard Pryor, Lenny Bruce and George Carlin — who performed at UCCC last fall — is even harder, she said. Jackson’s act is clean, and so is that of her opening act, Clinton Jackson (no relation) who gained his fame from the Aspen Comedy Festival a few years ago.

“But two of the best stand-ups are Jerry Seinfeld and Steve Martin, and they’re clean,” Victoria Jackson said. “So it is possible, even though it’s rare.”

FullMetal Alchemist (48)

FullMetal Alchemist"Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is Alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only truth."

3 Wise-asses (15)

3wiseassesWe're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!) We call it insight, you call it what you will.

Ravings, rantings, and gibberish. (36)

DrewWhat is up FoCo? I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado. I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks. Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know! --Drew
