In the wake of three recent shootings in schools across the nation, a Wisconsin lawmaker is pushing a radical agenda to the forefront of this national debate. Republican Frank Lasee of Wisconsin believes that teachers should be armed and trained to carry concealed weapons in schools. Although the recent events in Colorado, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin are both tragic and horrific, arming teachers with .38 caliber hand-cannons is not the answer. Lasee points to Thailand and Israel, two countries that allow administrators and guards to carry weapons, as contributing evidence that this works. Lasee believes that having armed guards and or teachers at schools will deter shooters from targeting schools. This scare-tactic is absurd as it is pointless, and will do nothing but further hindering the failing public school system.
Look at the attacks in Pennsylvania and Colorado. Both shooters ended up killing themselves before authorities could take them into custody. Columbine ended up with the same result. If the attackers have no fear of dying, how is the deterrent of armed teachers or guards going to scare them? It won't. If anything, it will only increase the violent nature of attacks, and perhaps add another level of animosity between troubled students and teachers. A move towards a totalitarian educational system is absolutely absurd. Instead of handing more guns out, perhaps the government and lawmakers should make it harder for minors to get their hands on guns. Instead of creating a more authoritative and commanding school system, we should employ more counselors and mentors for at-risk teens. It is disturbing, and disappointing to know that lawmakers like Lasee believe that in order to stop school violence we must arm teachers and school administrators.

Ravings, rantings, and gibberish. (36) writen by: Drew What is up FoCo?
I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!

| | We're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!)
