Buckle up, you’re in for a ride with Jenny and Mike Scarpulla. The couple from Fort Collins owns Intrigue Limousine Service, a company that motors from Castle Rock to Cheyenne and Greeley to Boulder.

Mike has worked in the automobile industry for about 13 years. He is a member of the National Limo Association.

“He decided one day that it would be fun to buy a Hummer limo,” Jenny said. “My first thought was that he was crazy, but he convinced me it would be a good idea.”
Jenny, who has her master’s in physical therapy, never expected she would help run a limo company, but she absolutely loves it.

Their first limo purchase went so well, they bought a second one within six months. Now, two years later, their company has expanded so much they own five limousines and have eight chauffeurs.

“Everything has gone really well because we have the limousines that no one else in town has,” she said.

What sets their limo company apart from others, the Scarpullas say, are the special things, like decorating the inside for free, providing a complimentary picture and having all the whistles and bells like smoke machines, lasers, and PlayStations.

How long have you worked there? A little longer than two years

IN HER WORDS

What is it about this job that makes it challenging?
It never ends. It’s 24 hours a day. I answer the phone 24 hours a day.

Makes you get out of bed in the morning?
My family. That’s really what makes me get out of bed in the morning. But the work as far as my business, it’s challenging, it’s fulfilling and it’s exciting. It’s kind of self-motivating. It makes you want to keep going because it keeps growing.

Things that impress you?
People who are well spoken and their actions follow their words. That impresses me.

Things that don’t.
People who don’t return phone calls and people who are rude don’t impress me.

How do young/new employees get ahead?
It takes a lot of motivation, a lot of independence and drive. One thing that has really helped us is networking, getting out and meeting new people and becoming involved in community activities.

Did you ever think in a million years you’d work here?
Never. Not in a million years. I’m a physical therapist, so it’s very different from what I went to school for. But even though I never thought I would do this, I really enjoy it.

If you weren’t doing this, what would you do?
I do physical therapy now, but I would devote more time to that and to my family.

What’s the stupidest thing you’ve ever done while at work?
Everyone makes mistakes, but I can’t remember doing anything stupid at work.

Smartest?
The smartest thing I’ve done is meeting and speaking with as many people as we can and listening.

What’s the most unusual thing you’ve ever done to make money?
One summer when I was 14, I snipped onions all summer at a nursery. My hands smelled like onions all summer long.

Any interesting anecdotes?
Never assume anything. Never say never and say what you mean and mean what you say.

What’s the one thing you wish you could do on the job that you can’t right now?
I wish I could have a dozen more cars. I’d like to have a pink limousine and a Rolls-Royce.

What do you do during your breaks?
I enjoy spending time with my family, going out with friends and watching movies.

What’s one thing about your job you would do, even if you weren’t paid to do it?
My favorite thing is going to the networking events and different places where you get to meet a lot of people.

What’s the biggest payoff in your job?
The biggest payoff in my job is when somebody calls the next day and says, “Thank you. The limousine was awesome, you made my day great and the chauffeur was perfect.” That’s the best.

Are you the boss? Do you think you should be?
My husband and I are the bosses. And, yes, I think I should be.

What do you do when you’re not at work?
I’m always at work. I answer the phone all the time. When I’m not doing limo stuff I do home health care and I very much enjoy that.

Pets?
I have two Italian greyhounds, Mia and Dante, and a cockatoo named Baby.

Family?
Two kids: Jade is 5 1/2 years old and Trystan is 7 years old.

Favorite TV shows.
“Lost” and “CSI”

Movies.
“Napoleon Dynamite”

Books.
My favorite authors are Patricia Cornwell and Stephen King.

What Web sites do you have bookmarked?
Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Fort Collins, the Lincoln Center, all of the theaters in the area and Front Range Community College.

Where do you play?
Old town Fort Collins and once a year we go to Idaho Springs and stay in a cabin. We play a lot there.

Go out to eat?
The Melting Pot is my very favorite. I really like Nico’s Catacombs and Jay’s Bistro.

Favorite spot?
Home!

FullMetal Alchemist (48)

FullMetal Alchemist"Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is Alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only truth."

3 Wise-asses (15)

3wiseassesWe're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!) We call it insight, you call it what you will.

Ravings, rantings, and gibberish. (36)

DrewWhat is up FoCo? I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado. I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks. Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know! --Drew
