Page 1 of 2 The Fort Collins Museum Foundation will have adults scavenging around town on a historical romp.
The first ever History Mystery Challenge on June 9 will raise money for the Museum Foundation’s Endowment fund.
“We knew people were tired of silent auctions so we wanted to try something different,” said Brent Carmack, assistant director of the Fort Collins Museum. Teams of four to six people 21 or older will be given 90 minutes to search Old Town for answers to 20 clues about historical buildings or figures.
The event kicks off at 6 p.m. with food and refreshments and costs $25 per person. “You don’t have to be a historian or know much about the history of Fort Collins to participate,” Carmack said. “There are several different ways a person might hone in on a clue.”
Although this one won’t be used at the event, here is an example of the type of riddles to expect:
“Finding this house that looks like a castle for most people should not be a hassle. Over the years many local leaders lived there, but now a different kind of leader they share. You may think this clue has a fishy smell but, the solution to this riddle is easy to tell. A certain saint welcomes you into this building’s gate. What is the number of this fabulous estate?”
Give up? The answer is St. Peter’s Fly Shop at 202 Remington St. And for those who’s feet get tired and need a rest, there will be opportunities to buy clues. Some of the locations may even lend themselves to quick breaks. After all the teams regroup, judges will tally the results. The winning team will be recognized at an award ceremony directly following and earns bragging rights. The event will be rain or shine, so an umbrella in the car might not be a bad idea. Carmack said the goal is to have 25 teams. The registration deadline is June 2, and Carmack expects to get a rush as it gets closer.
“Frankly though, if people show up, we will squeeze them in,” he said. Carmack is hoping to draw in new people to the museum through this event. “This is a fundraiser, but it’s also a friend-raiser,” Carmack said. “It’s a way to expose people who have not darkened the door of the museum before.”

| | We're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!)
We call it insight, you call it what you will. | |

| | What is up FoCo?
I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!
