It’s fitting that Boulder’s Jonah Werner is headlining this year’s 90/10 benefit concert for Everyday Joe’s Coffee House.
He grew up with last year’s headliner, Trace Bundy.
It’s that sense of connection that appeals to the folks at Everyday Joe’s, a nonprofit that gives its monthly profits to area charities.
Talk very long to Chris Hess, director of events and public relations for Everyday Joe’s, and you’ll hear him use the word “community” often.
Werner’s style and message fits with that approach.
“Jonah writes songs that are very truthful and he deals with hard issues,” Hess said. So far, Everyday Joe’s has been successful building a community of musicians who believe in the coffee house’s purpose.
Along with Werner, also performing at this year’s beneift will be Arkansas based hip-hop artist/poet Listener, Aaron Strumpel (who once lived in Bundy’s basement), Tim Thornton of the Blackthorn Project and Fort Collins band Winderous Igloos.
Last year’s 90/10 concert (90 percent of the proceeds go to the coffee house and the performers split the remaining 10 percent) raised $2,000. Hess said they were able to purchase couches, chairs and a sink for the men’s room with the proceeds.
“After the success of last year’s benefit, I wasn’t quite sure we could top it. But our community here just keeps growing and the musicians who believe in this place continue to amaze me.”
90/10 benefit concert • 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21 • Everyday Joe’s Coffee House, 144 S. Mason, Fort Collins • Tickets: $10 advance, $12 at the door • www.everydayjoes.org | Only registered users can write comments. Please login or register. |

| | "Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is Alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only truth." | |
| | We're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!)
We call it insight, you call it what you will. | |

| | What is up FoCo?
I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!
