RICHMOND, Va. — In order to get Jim Carrey to eat his food, caterer Frank Woodward had to do a little acting of his own.
Woodward, the founder of For Stars Catering, was on the set of the 1999 film “Man On The Moon,” feeding hundreds of cast and crew members, but Carrey would always order out.
“There isn’t anything that he can name that I can’t fix,” Woodward told Carrey’s assistant. “And if there is, I’ll never bug him again.”
Carrey’s request? Radioactive hot-dogs. ———
Since the early ’80s, Woodward has been on a mission to feed the hungry stars, casts and crews of more than 35 movies and TV shows.
His company has done all but one of Tom Cruise’s movies ever since the actor promised on the set of “The Outsiders” that when he was a big star, Woodward would cater all his movies.
He and his crew of about a dozen, including his wife Michelle, whip up gourmet dishes from the confines of a trailer equipped with a professional stainless-steel kitchen.
Woodward, 64, says he tries to never repeat a dish while on a set. For each meal, there are hot and cold options, as well as both meat and vegetarian options. Woodward also whips up a large salad and dessert bar and an array of drinks. ———
But back to those radioactive hot dogs. In front of nearly 150 people Woodward donned a Hazmat suit, carried a fluorescent green plate, tubes with hot-dogs inside, two buns, mustard and ketchup to Carrey’s trailer.
“Excuse me Mr. Carrey,” Woodward said. “Here are your radioactive hot-dogs.” The star ate them and from that day on, Carrey never ordered another takeout meal when Woodward was catering. ———
A recent lunch in Richmond on the set of “Evan Almighty,” the sequel to the 2003 film “Bruce Almighty,” featured pork tenderloin, panko-crusted salmon, sautéed spinach and a vegetarian stew. On the set, Woodward fed both extras and the stars, including Steve Carell, Morgan Freeman and John Goodman.
Woodward has recently taken a step from behind the camera to the forefront in a Food Network special that chronicled his company’s task of catering “Mission: Impossible III.”
“Catering Impossible” followed Woodward from Hollywood to China as he served up some swanky dishes for the movie’s all-star cast. The network plans to film other specials documenting other catering jobs in all their glamor, stresses and good eats.
But he doesn’t plan to give up his day job for a shot at fame? He’ll leave that to the people he feeds. ———

asap contributor Michael Felberbaum wouldn’t eat radioactive hot-dogs. He’s a vegetarian.

| | We're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!)
We call it insight, you call it what you will. | |

| | What is up FoCo?
I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!
