Jesus Christ, superstar, comes to '24' |

Once you've been James Bond, MacGyver, Superman and Rambo, there's only one role left for a star counterterrorism agent to play: Jesus Christ himself.
Fox debuted a preview of the sixth season of "24" on Tuesday and it seems Jack Bauer, and the rest of the government, have developed a serious Christ complex. Jack's got the scraggly beard, the bound hands, the abused, shirtless torso.
"If we want these attacks to stop," says a nervous government official, "Jack Bauer has to be sacrificed."
Whoa. Will he rise again?
In the new season premiering in January, life in America has gotten a lot worse — terrorists have hit St. Louis, Baltimore, Houston and more — and for us to survive, Jack Bauer has to die.
In a breathy voiceover, Bauer says, "Do you understand the difference between dying for something and dying for nothing? Today I can die for something — my way, my choice."
We probably shouldn't be surprised by Jesus/Jack — he's already come back to life at least a couple of times and he's been subjected to torture that would do Mel Gibson proud. Then again, Jack has never been one to turn the other cheek.
The show's writers have always been good at picking up the country's fears and pushing them to the limit. It seems this season, the war on terror and Christianity are converging in ways the real administration wouldn't dare suggest.

I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
