RALEIGH, N.C. — The Carolina Hurricanes are celebrating their first-ever Stanley Cup. The team beat the Edmonton Oiler 3-1 on Monday night.

Aaron Ward and Frantisek Kaberle found the net for the Hurricanes and goalie Cam Ward -- the Conn Smythe Trophy winner as the most valuable player in the playoffs -- stopped every shot that came his way.

Justin Williams finished off the Oilers, scoring an open-net goal with 1:01 remaining after Edmonton had cut the lead in half early in the third period.

WINNING MOMENT
Bret Hedican, among a contingent of 30-something Carolina players who had never won the cup, leaped in the air after Williams’ shot went in. The crowd of nearly 19,000, which stood throughout the game, went into a frenzy.

“We want the cup!” they chanted over and over.

Carolina's Captain acting like a fool

That's great that Carolina finally pulled one out of their ass after squandering game 5, oh, AND game 6. Personally I'd rather have seen Edmonton win it just on fan-base alone. (Carolina's fans are ALL bandwagon, they can't even sell out the first game of their season. Guarantee they won't next season either) Carolina's players probably deserved it more though. to hell with their fans. My one complaint or rather, what made me sick is when Rod Brind'Amour went to go grab the cup while Gary Bettman was still talking. he even had to tell Rod:"I'm almost finished" Then, when he was finished, Rod just grabbed the cup and started celebrating. I know he's never won it before, but there is protocol. The comissioner is supposed to award it by handing it to the captain, the picture goes to the hockey hall of fame. that's why all the other pictures before (oh and when Cam Ward got the Conn Smythe, HE knew what to do, you hold one half while a rep holds the other, take pictures and then go ahead and celebrate.) Brind'Amour looked like an idiot.

3wiseassesWe're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!) We call it insight, you call it what you will.

Ravings, rantings, and gibberish. (36)

DrewWhat is up FoCo? I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado. I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks. Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know! --Drew
