DON'T MISS
"BROKEN TRAIL" — Robert Duvall, who wowed television viewers in the 1989 landmark miniseries "Lonesome Dove," is back in the saddle again for this enthralling four-hour cable miniseries. Duvall is superb as Print Ritter, a grizzled cowboy who coaxes his estranged nephew (Thomas Hayden Church) to help him drive a herd of horses from Oregon to Wyoming.

But what starts out as a journey of male-bonding becomes highly complicated when the men rescue a group of Chinese women who have been sold into sex slavery. The fateful act of decency plunges their lives into peril and drastically alters their destinies. Directed with a deft touch by Walter Hill and beautifully photographed, "Broken Trail" immediately takes its place among classic TV Westerns. Greta Scacchi and Chris Mulkey also star. 8 p.m. tonight and Monday, AMC.

OTHER BETS:

SUNDAY:
The exhilarating third season of "Deadwood" continues with an episode that has theater impresario Jack Langrishe (Brian Cox) arriving in town to spice things up. He's an old friend of shady Al Swearengen, who remains locked in a dangerous battle of wills with mining magnate George Hearst. 9 p.m., HBO.

SUNDAY: "Inside the Actors Studio" welcomes its 200th guest, Dustin Hoffman, tonight during a special two-hour episode. Our man, James Lipton, grills Hoffman about his life and career, which spans such memorable films as "The Graduate," "Midnight Cowboy," "Tootsie" and "Rainman." 9 p.m., Bravo.

MONDAY: "How Art Made the World" is an intriguing new five-part documentary that examines the far-reaching influence of art on society. The opening installment seeks to explain why our world is so dominated by unrealistic images of the human body. Art historian and University of Cambridge lecturer Dr. Nigel Spivey hosts. 10 p.m. Monday, PBS.

TUESDAY: Actor-singer Jamie Foxx leads the field with five nominations at the BET Awards, the annual event that fetes standouts in television, music and film.

Featured performers include Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey and Kanye West. Chanka Kahn will be honored with a lifetime achievement award and Harry Belafonte receives the humanitarian award. Damon Wayans hosts. 8 p.m., BET.

WEDNESDAY: If you missed its initial airing, now's the time to catch "No Direction Home." It's director Martin Scorsese's extraordinary two-part documentary about Bob Dylan that focuses on the rock icon's early musical explorations via rare archival footage and absorbing interviews. 9 p.m., PBS.

WEDNESDAY: "My First Time" is a new six-part series in which veteran television stars go down memory lane to dish about how they got their first big break in the business. The opener features Henry Winkler ("Happy Days") and Katey Sagal ("Married With Children" and "8 Simple Rules"). 10 p.m., TV Land.

THURSDAY: The documentary special "Boffo! Tinseltown's Bombs and Blockbusters" marks the 100th anniversary of the Hollywood trade magazine, Variety, by exploring the complex, often traumatic, stories behind cinema's biggest box-office successes and failures. Interviews with George Clooney, Morgan Freeman, Charlize Theron and many others are featured. 9 p.m., HBO.

THURSDAY: "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia," but is it always funny? We hope that the sitcom about a group of bar owners in Philly is at least funnier than it was in its so-so first season. It launches its sophomore campaign tonight and the good news is that Danny DeVito is along for all 10 episodes. 10 p.m., FX.

FRIDAY: "What secrets lie buried beneath the snow?" That's the tantalizing come-on for "Whistler," a new drama series aimed at teenagers. When an Olympic snowboarder is found dead, his moneyed hometown of Whistler descends into turmoil and a web of mysteries is in the offing. 8 p.m., The N.

SATURDAY: The weird twists on the home-makeover genre just keep coming. "What's Your Sign Design" is a new series in which an interior designer and an astrologer team up to bring co-dwelling harmony to "star-crossed" homeowners and roommates. Only in these endeavors, color schemes and layouts are chosen based on astrological signs. 9 p.m., HGTV.

FullMetal Alchemist (48)

FullMetal Alchemist"Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is Alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only truth."

3 Wise-asses (15)

3wiseassesWe're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!) We call it insight, you call it what you will.

Ravings, rantings, and gibberish. (36)

DrewWhat is up FoCo? I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado. I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks. Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know! --Drew
