Sensational sides: outdoor party favorites
Maybe you aren’t destined to become a Grill Master, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still contribute to the picnic table.
“I’d rather have someone else smell like a grill,” said David White, produce manager at Sunflower Market in Fort Collins. “I don’t want to smell like a piece of meat.”
Maybe it’s someone else throwing down and you are asked to bring a side dish.
White said you can never go wrong with traditional sides such as potato or macaroni salad, pickles, green salads, vegetable trays or fresh fruit.
Of course, chips and salsa or dip is always a hit.
If you aren’t going to prepare the side ahead of time, many tasty sides can be cooked on the grill.
White said the benefit to this is the grill will already be hot and flavors will be compatible.
He recommends corn grilled in its natural husks, bell peppers and even some fruits like mangos and apples.
Mejia likes to prepare a little more extravagant or exotic sides, such as couscous or melon wrapped in prosciutto.
“I just really like good-tasting food,” he said.

I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!
