Family sues Royal Caribbean |

STAMFORD, Conn. — More choppy waters for Royal Caribbean Cruises.
The family of missing honeymooner George Smith has filed a lawsuit against the cruise line, accusing Royal Caribbean of hampering an investigation into Smith’s disappearance.
Smith, 26, vanished from a cruise last year after an apparent late night of drinking. Bloodstains were found on a canopy that covers lifeboats. No one has been charged and no body has been found, but Smith is presumed dead. The FBI is still investigating.
The case prompted congressional hearings and new legislation to tighten requirements for reporting when passengers disappear.

“The family was seeking closure and still is, and Royal Caribbean did everything in their power to portray this incident as an accident,” said Brett Rivkind, a Miami lawyer representing the Smiths. “The family believes the fact that the FBI is still working on the case a year later is a direct result of Royal Caribbean’s initial effort to try to hide what really happened.”

“These are recklessly false charges,” said Adam Goldstein, president of Royal Caribbean International. “This lawsuit is an unconscionable attack on our company and its employees, who have done everything they could to fully support the authorities and their investigations.” | Only registered users can write comments.

I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk.
