Page 2 of 2 PS3 IN DANGER? Sony has delayed the release of its first stand-alone Blu-ray movie player from mid-August to Oct. 25. While most consumers probably don’t care, the move is a little unnerving because the PS3, which also uses Blu-ray technology, is scheduled to be released Nov. 17. If Sony is having trouble with the technology in its stand-alone players, you have to wonder whether it’s having similar difficulties with the Blu-ray drives in the PS3.
GAMER GODS MTV has an interesting list at mtv.com of the top 10 most influential game players ever. Not game makers, but actual gamer nerds. It’s a solid list, including folks such as the creators of the insanely popular online comic Penny Arcade and the Dutch gamer who uncovered the Hot Coffee code in GTA: San Andreas. OPERATIC Opera Software will release its Opera Web browser for the Nintendo DS in Japan on July 24 for about $30. A U.S. release date is still unknown but could be announced on the 24th.
MORE INVENTIONS Don’t expect to see Al Gore in any Xbox 360 commercials. The folks over at DXGaming.com ran several recent consoles through a battery of tests to gauge energy consumption and found that Microsoft’s juggernaut is the most power-hungry. Even if you don’t care about all those poor polar bears and their boiling glaciers, the site notes that the 360 also takes the biggest bite out of your wallet.
The testers found that playing an Xbox 360 for an average of two hours per day would cost an extra $19.88 per year on your electricity bill. It doesn’t sound like much, but older consoles are much less greedy. Running a PS2 for two hours a day would increase your yearly electric bill by $5.69. Playing the original PlayStation would add a paltry 90 cents yearly. The DXGaming folks point out, though, that consoles are getting much more powerful, and all that technology requires more juice. | Only registered users can write comments. Please login or register.

| | We're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!)

| | What is up FoCo?
I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!
