Are you Ready to Learn More About Guns?

So you’re interested in guns but don’t know the first thing about them? The first step is education.

“Certainly find a competent instructor, especially in the beginning, from the get-go,” said Tim Brough, owner of Rocky Mountain Shooters Supply in Fort Collins. He advised against learning from your husband, because “they have very little patience,” he said.

He said it’s important to find an instructor who will let you try several guns because one size does not fit all.

You can also visit a gun range, indoor or outdoor, to watch other people shoot, even if you don’t want to participate right away.

You don’t have to travel far to learn to shoot, either. The Greeley Recreation Center is one option — an NRA basic pistol class is taught there by instructors from the Columbine Rifle and Pistol Club.

“It’s primarily concerned with safety and the safe handling of guns and how they operate,” said Chuck Holt, an NRA-certified instructor who teaches there.
He said about 40 percent of participants are female.

“Guys generally think they already know everything so they don’t pay too much attention,” Holt said. “That’s my favorite part of the class — when I get husbands and wives or boyfriends and girlfriends and we go through the marksmanship aspects and all that, and then the girls outshoot the guys.”

Brough’s wife, Lisa, said shooting is something couples can do together. She sees a lot of guys bring their wives or girlfriends to the range.

“They don’t have to leave her at home to go out and have fun,”  she said.

FullMetal Alchemist (48)

FullMetal Alchemist"Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is Alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only truth."

3 Wise-asses (15)

3wiseassesWe're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!) We call it insight, you call it what you will.

Ravings, rantings, and gibberish. (36)

DrewWhat is up FoCo? I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado. I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks. Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know! --Drew
