All about words.
Elsewhere on this page is a story about a guy who loves crossword puzzles so much, he makes a living doing them. We do words here at NEXTnc, too, but we’re not snobbish about it. In fact, we’re constantly perplexed at the number of ways the English language doesn’t make sense. For instance, in You Said It just above this feature, there’s the word Amish — it’s spelled with an A but pronounced like an O. Why? And a lot of English words derived from French words don’t make sense. Anyone had a debut lately? Now why is the T silent? If a letter is silent, does it even need to be there? Wouldn’t the world be a better place if we said the P in psychologist? Is it a wonder that immigrants, illegal or otherwise, have difficulty learning American?
About face.
We know it’s the way of professional sports these days — no loyalty. But the Colorado Avalanche are changing faces faster Kenny Rogers. First Alex Tanguay was traded. Then Rob Blake signed with the L.A. Kings. Then grunt Dan Hinote hit the road. The next thing you know, the general manager Pierre La.... oh, wait, he’s gone, too.
Greens and reds.
We’ve realized while tooling around in Fort Collins, Greeley and even Denver, our driving is like our golf game — we never hit the greens.
Forgot something.
So, we’re driving down the road and we see a whole slew of full trash bags along side of the road, obviously the result of a highway cleanup project. But we did notice, with a smile, that the crew forgot to pick up one piece of trash — the cardboard box that the trash bags came in.

|  | What is up FoCo?
I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!
