Jarvis Cocker, the former frontman of the British band Pulp, was the 1990s poet of seedy nightclubs. His pop music gems often featured him leering from the shadows and his songs were creepy and intoxicating.
He's back with a new solo album and his music is as inspired as ever. Though he may be more interested in glam-rock foot-stompers now rather than voyeurism and debauchery, his dark side (and his song-writing chops) are still alive.
But if you really want to get close to Jarvis, turn down the music and turn on his podcasts — or Jarvcasts, as he calls them. (Find them on his MySpace page: http://myspace.com/jarvspace or on iTunes.) They're stripped-down affairs: no rants, no high-production, no music. Just Jarvis reading a story.
One episode features him reciting J.D. Salinger's "The Laughing Man;" another stars a 19th century Danish fairy tale; another showcases the Brothers Grimm's "The Mouse, the Bird and the Sausage."
They're dark, whimsical, and wickedly smart — much like Cocker's lyrics.
His dark-molasses voice, his English accent and his sense of theater make him a terrific storyteller — a good thing since some of his podcasts are 45 minutes long. They're small examples of the weird serendipity that is the Internet at its best.
Cocker may be a creepy candidate to read bedtime stories — who knows where that mouth has been? But give in. How often does a rock star offer to read to you?

| | "Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is Alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only truth." | |
| | We're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!)
We call it insight, you call it what you will. | |

| | What is up FoCo?
I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!
