Well into its 10th year, the Neighborhood Nights movie and concert series entertains Greeley residents with outdoor movies and wraps up with a concert.
Neighborhood Nights started as just a concert series and, due to cost, morphed into an outdoor traveling movie venue, and it has gotten bigger throughout the years.
“We started with one concert in Allen Park,” Rhonda Welch, festival coordinator for Greeley said. “The next summer we added some more concerts and it grew from there.”
Because the cost of putting on so many concerts was proving too expensive, the idea for an outdoor movie was introduced.
The movies were originally projected onto the side of the concert bus and have since upgraded to a blimp screen. Welch said that every year the crowds have grown along with the movie series.
“We draw anywhere from 350-500 people at the movies, and concerts can get 1,000 or more people,” Welch said.
According to Welch, it’s the out-of-the-ordinary experience that draws people back every year.
“It’s like going to the drive-in in a neighborhood park,” Welch said.
Picking the movies is a bit of a challenge, but the staff manages to whittle it down to five, with everybody throwing in their suggestions, Welch said.
“We’ve had some classics, like ‘Casablanca’ and ‘E.T.’ and ‘The Wizard of Oz.’ We get it down to our five favorites.”
Although movies have become the focus of Neighborhood Nights, Welch says her favorite part is still the concerts.
“I love booking bands for Greeley,” Welch said. “The movies are fun too. It’s a really great time to come together as a family.”
This year will mark the first concert at the new Twin Rivers Park Community Ampitheater in west Greeley. The 7 p.m. concert features regional favorite Dakota Blonde.

| | "Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is Alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only truth." | |
| | We're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!)
We call it insight, you call it what you will. | |

| | What is up FoCo?
I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!
