In the past nine months, Fort Collins-based band White Water Ramble has gone from being a semi-serious band having “jam sessions” to headlining theaters all over the Rocky Mountain region and recording a new live album.

Combining rock, blues, jazz and bluegrass, White Water Ramble makes what band members call “jam grass.”

The band, which has been compared to String Cheese Incident and Leftover Salmon, decided to take their best covers and originals played in venues and put them on one album.

trick Sites, who covers vocals and plays mandolin for White Water Ramble, said the new album is full of different genres of music.

There is something for everyone on there. We do a lot of really great covers, but we are saving our originals for a studio album,” he said. “We’ve mainly taken a few highlights from our other shows.”

The live album will feature a variety of musicians, with Howard Montgomery playing upright bass, Joe Turman playing the fiddle, Brian Coddington playing the guitar, Alex Jacobson playing the drums and Sites, singing and playing the mandolin.

“We have a lot of blue grass instruments but are not playing bluegrass, per se,” said Sites. “We took our favorite parts of each genre and kind of slammed it all together. We’re very chameleonesque.”

“Red Alert! Live”, the group’s new CD, is packed with up-tempo, toe-tapping beats taken from the band’s best shows. Though some of the venues the band plays in are relatively small, the loyal fan base is what makes the shows seem so up-beat.

“We’re very high energy. Come ready to dance because we’ll wear you out,” Sites said.

Sites also said the band’s busy schedule can be overwhelming, but because the members of the band get along so well, that helps to ease the craziness of the schedule.

The band performs between 12 and 20 shows each month and the band members hold day jobs when not performing or recording.

“It’s definitely a constant work/life balance for us. We all use a lot of vacation time,” he said. “Personally, being able to get along is probably more important than the musical aspect.”

Sites said he and the other band members feel like they have really broken through into the Colorado music scene with the making of Red Alert! Live.

“It’s nice to have moderate celebrity status in our little corner of the world,” he said.

FullMetal Alchemist (48)

FullMetal Alchemist"Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is Alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only truth."

3 Wise-asses (15)

3wiseassesWe're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!) We call it insight, you call it what you will.

Ravings, rantings, and gibberish. (36)

DrewWhat is up FoCo? I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado. I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks. Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know! --Drew
