Arts shows aren’t just for galleries and museums.
How about a bar and restaurant? A place that has lively conversation about all aspects of our culture might as well have some culture hanging on the walls, too.
The Surfside 7 in Old Town Fort Collins will host “A Witty and Irreverent” holiday art show, which

starts Dec. 7 and will run through Jan. 2. The show features a variety of young, contemporary and edgy artists.
The art show’s coordinator, Erin Wright, will have her work on display, along with eight others, some of which are first-time exhibitors.
And this is not the first art show at the intimate space that is Surfside 7, nor will it be the last. It’s a spot Wright calls “one of Fort Collins’ hidden treasures,” and she plans on hosting shows there every month.
At the studio she shares with husband Jonny Wright in the new Poudre River Arts Center, Erin talked about her medium; acrylic on canvas and recovered materials. “My work is mostly imagined landscapes. I’m really into finding pieces of furniture to paint on right now. I’ve done a couple of closet doors.”
Wright’s work is all about storytelling. “A door 100 years ago was hand-carved, individually and intricately created,” she said. “Today, doors are mass-produced.” Layers of color add her personal creativity to these doors.
She finds beauty in things that others easily regard as a nuisance. “I’m also intrigued by freight trains, just from living in Fort Collins and having a background in politics and philosophy,” Wright said. “They are a collision of vigilante art (graffiti) and engineers. The advent of the train shifted the whole cultural identity of societies throughout the world.”
A firm believer in the power of our minds, Wright said, “I feel a sense of inspiration from our imagination, which I think is an undervalued tool. Einstein once said, ‘Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.’ Progress comes from imagination, without it, we would never move forward.”
Wright is always looking for new artists and would like anyone interested in participating in future shows to e-mail her at:

| | "Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is Alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only truth." | |
| | We're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!)
We call it insight, you call it what you will. | |

| | Hola Amigos! I'm Sandra. I like to believe that people are 70 percent good and 30 percent dumb. I'm stickin to that story. Reading this blog might make you want to be good, but probably just dumb. | |

| | What is up FoCo?
I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!

| | My name is Michelle Turley and I'm 28 years old. I live in Severance with my hubbie, Brandon. We have 2 dogs and a cat. We enjoy camping, four-wheeling, and just being in the mountains. I like to cook, clean (go figure), flea market, and play poker. I have so much to say about poker... | | |
