The curtain closes on a 17-year-old theatrical tradition — the Greeley Chorale’s Madrigal Feaste — but the show isn’t over yet.

Instead of the Madrigal Feaste, the Chorale will put on Gloria & Feaste of Carols this year.

Although the new production  is exciting for members, it’s with a heavy heart they say goodbye to the Madrigal Feaste.

Anna Green, the media relations director for the Greeley Chorale, said the producer and the jester of the event both retired, and around the same time, the set director passed away.

“All of those things happening were like a domino effect,” she said. “The Greeley Chorale took it as a sign. Maybe it’s time to look at doing something a little bit different.”

Karen Zack, administrator for the Greeley Chorale and member for 18 years, said the transition will be melancholy.

“The Madrigal was a very special event to a lot of us,” Zack said. “I’m sad to see it go but excited to do something new and move forward in a new direction.”
What Zack will miss most about the Madrigal is becoming a different character. She played a wench in past performances.

“I am going through wench withdrawal,” she joked.

The upside though is the new production will not be as demanding of the performers’ time during the already overly busy holiday season.

The new performance will put the focus back on the music.

“From a singers point of view, we are still providing the concert portion,” Zack said. “Singing is what we do first and foremost.”

The production includes contemporary and classic works and features a 10-piece brass ensemble. The Greeley Children’s Chorale will also perform.

“We are really trying to focus on the spirit of the holiday,” Green said. “We will get the audience involved with sing-a-long tunes.”

The hope is that the new format will become as strong of a community tradition as The Madrigal Feaste.

“I see this as a move forward for us,” Zack said. “We are trying to keep things fresh and new for the Chorale and the community. We hope the community will embrace this like they did with the Madrigal.”

Green is confident the community will go away happy. She said the real show-stopper will be the final performance, John Rutter’s Gloria.

“Every tradition has to start somewhere,” Green said. “Even the Madrigal Feaste wasn’t as well received the first year as it was the last 16 years.”

FullMetal Alchemist (48)

FullMetal Alchemist"Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is Alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only truth."

3 Wise-asses (15)

3wiseassesWe're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!) We call it insight, you call it what you will.

Ravings, rantings, and gibberish. (36)

DrewWhat is up FoCo? I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado. I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks. Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know! --Drew
