 Everyone in the U.S. has a constitutional right to bear arms, but what if you don't want to pack a lethal weapon for self-protection?
You could join a martial arts class, learn how to box or take up running to flee from danger. Or, you could be like teen sleuth Veronica Mars on the CW show -- and carry a civilian Taser stun gun.
The stun gun of choice, the M18 Advanced Taser, is made by Scottsdale-Ariz.-based Taser International Inc.
One Web site described the M18 as making "a quantum leap in stopping power via new Electro-Muscular Disruption (EMD) technology."
The stun gun's maker said the M18's 18 watts of power output delivers a 50,000-volt shock that temporarily overrides the central nervous system and takes over muscle control -- debilitating opponents. It has a 15-foot range, too.
Taser energy weapons are not considered firearms because they use compressed nitrogen gas to propel the cartridges that deliver the electric shock. Tasers are prohibited for consumer use in seven states: Hawaii, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island and Wisconsin. A handful of cities and counties also prohibit their use.
TECH SPECS: 50,000-volt shock. Power supply is eight AA batteries.

I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
