When running a business, a person should trust her partner like a sister. This is easy for Molly Aldrich and Jenny Warner. They are sisters. The two women have shared the dream of owning their own business and it has been a year since that dream came true.
ImageAldrich and Warner opened The Black Label, a new- and used-fashion store at 112 E. Laurel St. in Fort Collins.
“We love art and we love music and fashion, so we decided to hone in on all of our loves and creativity,” Warner said. “We decided to open a new and used boutique that has labels and clothing lines that deal with rock ’n’ roll and the music industry.”
The Black Label carries a lot of one-of-a-kind clothing, jewelry and accessories as well as high-end, designer vintage clothing.
If that wasn’t enough, the sisters are getting ready to launch their own “deconstructed-reconstructed” clothing line. “You take a vintage piece of clothing and alter it,” Warner said. “You embellish it. You take away from it. You add to it. It becomes a hand-done one-of-a-kind piece.”

What about this job makes it challenging?
Molly: The pressure to create a space where everyone will find exactly what they’re looking for.
Jenny: Keeping up with the most current fashion trends. Keeping that very fresh in the boutique and learning what people in Fort Collins want. That keeps us on our toes because it is different from East Coast/West Coast.

Things that impress you?
Molly: Kindness and individuality.
Jenny: People with really good attitudes. I love it and am very impressed with that.

Things that don’t?
Molly: Selfishness.
Jenny: Bad attitudes..

Did you ever think in a million years you’d work here?
Molly: Yes, I knew I would own my own business someday, but this is better then I ever dreamed.
Jenny: Yes, absolutely. All my friends would say that too. “You guys finally did it. You’ve been talking about it for a long time.”

If you weren’t doing this, what would you do?
Molly: More traveling.
Jenny: I am an interior designer. That’s my other job, so I guess I would be doing that. But if I could do something else, I would solely be designing a clothing line or focus on painting.

What’s the stupidest thing you’ve ever done while at work?
Molly: Got caught dancing!
Jenny: There’s a lot of them. I actually forgot to unlock the front door. No big deal.

What’s the smartest thing you’ve ever done while at work?
Molly: Dancing!
Jenny: Listening to what our customers want.
Name one thing in your life that really prepared you for your job.
Molly: My parents are amazing.
Jenny: Being raised in a business-oriented family. We’ve got entrepreneurial blood.

What’s the biggest payoff in your job?
Molly: The freedom to explore and express myself.
Jenny: I think meeting so many cool, amazing and fun people.

What do you do when you’re not at work?
Molly: I have a part-time job at Europa Salon & Spa.
Jenny: I paint, bike, snowboard and hang out with friends.

Pets?
Molly: A dog and cat. I’m a huge animal lover.
Jenny: Yes, I love pets. I have a 180 pound son, an English mastiff named Sultan, and a Siamese cat named Gray Paw.

Family?
Molly: I just named them!
Jenny: Two sisters, so there are three girls. We are all very close. I feel like we are Italian. We love passionately and fight passionately. We’re the Irish family that acts like Italians, but we are very close.”

Favorite TV shows.
Molly: “Munsters,” “I Dream of Jeanie” and “Mythbusters.”
Jenny: “Surreal Life,” “Mythbusters,” “MXC” and anything on Fuse.

Movies.
Molly: “Life Aquatic” and “Sin City” have been my most favorites of late.
Jenny: I love “Napoleon Dynamite,” “Tommy Boy” and the “Kill Bills.”

Books.
Molly: “Seat of the Soul” is my most recent.
Jenny: “Anatomy of the Spirit,” “Seat of the Soul” and “A Qwest for a Theory of Everything.”

What Web sites do you have bookmarked?
Molly: Mostly my vendors.
Jenny: Myspace, fashion and music ones.

Where do you play?
Molly: In the mountains and traveling.
Jenny:: Preferably somewhere in the mountains.

Go out to eat?
Molly: I’m a real Fort Collins girl — Lucilles and the Rio.
Jenny: I love sushi and Indian food.

Favorite spot?
Molly: Home with my dog and cat snuggling.
Jenny: In my bed!

Makes you get out of bed in the morning?
Molly: The opportunity I have been given to explore my creative side through fashion and music.
Jenny: I absolutely love this business. I’m an artist and a designer. With Molly’s and my creativity and background we are able to design a clothing line and provide a new trendy, current boutique. Owning our own business and having creative control is exciting. I think we are truly doing what we love.

Any interesting anecdotes?
Molly: My father told my sister and I on a daily basis to “be open to the mystery.”
Jenny: To give without remembering and to receive without forgetting. That was one of our dad’s sayings too.

What’s the one thing you wish you could do on the job that you can’t right now?
Molly: I love my job!
Jenny: Snowboard.

What do you do during your breaks?
Molly: Get some fresh air.
Jenny: Cleaning up mastiff drool off my walls at home.

What’s one thing about your job you would do, even if you weren’t paid to do it?
Molly: I’m not a paid employee, so I do this because its my passion!
Jenny: Definitely design clothes.

Are you the boss? One of them Do you think you should be?
Molly: I believe my sister and I are a perfect match. We totally love and respect each other.
She has always been so cool!
Jenny: Yes.

How do young employees get ahead?
Molly: Through loyalty, honesty and good work.
Jenny: Loyalty and creative impute

What’s the most unusual thing you’ve ever done to make money?
Molly: My side job. I specialize in Brazilian waxing!
Jenny: Try to sell my paintings.

FullMetal Alchemist (48)

FullMetal Alchemist"Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is Alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only truth."

3 Wise-asses (15)

3wiseassesWe're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!) We call it insight, you call it what you will.

Ravings, rantings, and gibberish. (36)

DrewWhat is up FoCo? I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado. I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks. Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know! --Drew
