Skeptics might resist a show called “Psychic at Large,” but the psychic in question still sells herself with abundant humor and charm.
Char Margolis headlines the reality television series, which debuts with back-to-back episodes Wednesday night on Sci-Fi.
The opener follows Margolis as she bargains with a car dealer, talks to nudists and visits actor Burt Ward, who played Robin on “Batman.” As a sign of her effectiveness, Margolis usually leaves her guests with goose bumps or in tears.
Of course, there’s another way to gauge her skill. I ask for a reading over the phone. She comes through, by using the initials of parents and friends, with eerie, on-the-money observations. She also supplies optimistic career news; time will reveal whether she’s accurate on that point.
“I believe there is a spirit world,” Margolis says from Los Angeles. “My job on this earth is to help people become aware of their own intuition, not to rely on me or other psychics.”
Margolis has an initial order of six episodes, and she sees “Psychic at Large” as a chance to teach and entertain.
“It’s so different from other psychic shows,” she says. “It’s a day in my life. I go places, I do things. People get readings they never expected. I do feel people are hungry about this work. That’s why ‘Medium’ and ‘Ghost Whisperer’ are popular shows. But ...there are no twists in this show. What you see is what you get.”
Margolis has helped law enforcement, lectured and appeared on “Larry King Live” and “Dr. Phil.” In a career highlight, she announced on “Live With Regis & Kelly” that Kelly Ripa was pregnant — news that Ripa hadn’t shared with her bosses.
The psychic says she’s trying to use her gift ethically and that she believes in karma: the what-goes-around-comes-around philosophy.
“I believe prayer and positive thoughts have power,” she says. “Positive thoughts attract positive energy. Negative thoughts attract negative energy.”
And she calls herself a mess in the real world. “I get lost in my own hometown when I’m driving,” she says. “My mind has so many things on it. I scare myself.”

FullMetal Alchemist (48)

FullMetal Alchemist"Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is Alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only truth."

3 Wise-asses (15)

3wiseassesWe're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!) We call it insight, you call it what you will.

Ravings, rantings, and gibberish. (36)

DrewWhat is up FoCo? I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado. I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks. Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know! --Drew
