 For her third studio album, Alicia Keys wanted to push out of her comfort zone.
The New York native said she is collaborating with John Mayer and songwriter Linda Perry, the former 4 Non Blondes singer who has worked with Christina Aguilera and Pink, among others, in recent years.
"The album is incredible. I love it, I really love it," Keys told asap in a recent interview. "I have about seven songs I'm in love with. We have a nice way to go still. It is just new. It's very new for me. Everything is new for me. I'm in a new space in my mind, how I think, where I am."
Keys said she has traveled to Los Angeles and Virginia to record and write songs. She didn't want to reveal her other collaborators until the as-yet-untitled CD is released in June.
"I don't like to get too much into who I'm working with so much, because I like at the end to be able to really tell you who it ended up being," she said. "But I'm just doing a lot of collaborations with people I admire that are not exactly who you would think.
"And that again takes me out of that comfort zone. That's my goal. I'm taking myself out of my comfort zone in my whole life, and I'm just flying."

I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!
