To record his next CD "Finding Forever," Common had to travel forever.
The Chicago-based rapper traveled to Hawaii and twice to New Zealand in order to collaborate with the oft-touring producer-rapper Kanye West, he said in a recent asap interview.
"We got the album started in New Zealand and Australia. Then we started working in New York, and did a bit in LA. We did something in Hawaii too," Common told asap. "We made the trip there to get away, be in our world."
He says he's in the "third quarter" of the recording process for the album, his seventh, which will feature production by West, Kareem Riggins and the late J Dilla. The 11-song CD will feature D'Angelo and West and is expected to be released in April or May.
Common said the title reflects his hope to make timeless music that can be heard forever.
"My daughter really is not up on Rakim," he told asap. "If I played it I don't know if she would appreciate it like I appreciate it. Whereas my mother's generation of music -- some Motown stuff, some Stevie Wonder -- when I hear it I appreciate it like no other. I'm like man, this is some of the best music ever. And Rakim is classic. I wonder what can we do to get the next generation to appreciate it if possible.
"I feel the album "Finding Forever" is another chapter in the story and life of Common, the book of Common. It's just another expression of making pure music at this time and this moment that can be here for a long time -- throughout time, infinite."

| | "Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is Alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only truth." | |
| | We're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!)
We call it insight, you call it what you will. | |

| | What is up FoCo?
I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!
