"Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" once again stayed on top of the box office in its third week out despite four new film contenders opening in wide release.
On Saturday, "Pirates 2" set another record for the fastest film in box office history to pass the $300 million mark on its 16th day out. Previously, the record was held by "Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith," which achieved the feat on its 17th day.
In addition, "Pirates 2" has already surpassed the $305.4 million final gross of its predecessor, "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl" and is the first film of 2006 to hold the No. 1 spot three weeks in a row. The last summer film that did it was 2001's "American Pie 2."
In their debut weekends, "Monster House" and "Lady in the Water" finished in second and third place, respectively, followed by "You, Me and Dupree" at No. 4 and "Little Man" at No. 5.
The other two new films opening in wide release, "Clerks II" and "My Super Ex-Girlfriend," had not-so-super sixth- and seventh-place finishes.
"Superman Returns," "The Devil Wears Prada" and "Cars" rounded out the Top 10. | Only registered users can write comments. Please login or register. |

| | We're not that bright, even though in our own little world, we're geniuses. We like 80s hair bands and one-hit wonders, but among us we have respectable tastes, too. Metallica, Iron Maiden, U2. Pursuit of all things trivial is a lifestyle, not just a game. We like some sports, love other sports, and can find something to say about anything. We watch TV and movies and we've read a book or two, even a few classics (Yes, Classic Comics count!)

| | What is up FoCo?
I am a recent college graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After recieving my B.A. in English and Mass Communications this past August I moved down to Colorado.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and heavy metal. My hobbies include reading and writing, music, movies, and getting drunk. Some of my favorite contemporary authors include Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut. My top movies are anything directed by Kubrick. I enjoy listening to anything that rocks.
Right now I am just trying to get to know Colorado and FoCo better. Mostly in order to find the best drink specials on each day that ends in Y. So if you know where I can get a cheap drunk on, let me know!
